How to Get Rid of Insomnia

sleeptrack

The occasional night of sleep poorly or no sleep is common for everybody. But insomnia is a regular occurrence of sleepless nights. It is very frustrating and can make it incredibly hard for the person to cope. But there are things that can be done to get rid of insomnia and put one on the path to a good night's sleep.

The first thing that can be done to help get rid of insomnia is to avoid stimulants. It's would be best if stimulants could be cut out altogether but it is extremely important to be extra vigilant about avoiding these things at least two hours before bedtime. Caffeine and excessive sugar are known stimulants. But other things that may be less commonly known are some types of medication such as diet pills and sinus pills. These medications speed up your metabolism and can keep you awake for long periods of time.

Many people think that a beer or alcoholic drinks will help them sleep better. This is not true. Alcohol may get you to sleep faster but it will only allow for a broken, interrupted, poor quality sleep. The length of sleep may not be for more than a few hours and it can continually wake you up throughout the night.

Not eating two or three hours before bedtime will help get rid of insomnia. Lying down while your body's trying to digest food can make it extremely difficult to sleep. It can also upset your digestive system, which will only cause more problems. If you have to eat, foods high in tryptophan are best. These foods include turkey, cashews, and yogurt. Another good idea is not to drink any liquids too close to bedtime. This could cause having to get up during the night to go to the bathroom.

Keeping regular bedtimes and waking hours will also help get rid of insomnia. It's difficult to change your sleep patterns when they are erratic because, there is no pattern to change. By keeping regular hours, it trains your body to sleep at certain times.

By simply changing some of your lifestyles and sleep habits, you will be on your way to getting rid of insomnia. If these things do not help, speak to your doctor and ask if he has any solutions to help with the condition. It may be something more serious or you may need medical or alternative treatment to help with the problem.

Help With Insomnia Tip #1

Insomnia is a sleeping disorder many people suffer from, but with a little effort, you can eliminate the most common factors for insomnia. Examine which variables contribute to your staying awake all night or cause you to wake up in the middle of the night. Work to change those factors and you'll sleep better for it.

Help With Insomnia Tip #2

Lower the thermostat before you go to sleep. Numerous studies have shown that in a resting state, the body maintains a lower body temperature. Keeping your bedroom a few degrees cooler at night will promote more restful, sounder sleep.

Help With Insomnia Tip #3

Try to sleep in complete darkness. Studies have shown that the greater the amount of light you are exposed to before sleeping, the earlier you will wake up. Sleeping with the lights on will disturb deep sleep and keep you from entering the most restful stages of the sleep cycle.
